Juan Luna Barong with black buttons supling Perlas ng Silangan Jusi BarongJuan Luna from Ilocos Norte, became one of the first recognized Philippine artists. He was as a painter, sculptor and a political activist of the Philippine Revolution during the late 19th century. He was highly regarded of his work in the European academies of his time and painted literary and historical scenes, some with an underscore of political commentary.
